The image of Spain is that of a sunny country with good temperatures all year round. Unfortunately, this does not correspond to reality, or at least not throughout the country. From a weather point of view, Spain can in fact be divided into five macro-areas, each with its own particular climate and small climatic differences within it: this diversity is caused by different altitudes and oceanic flows.
What is of most interest to the tourist is knowing when to go on holiday to Spain, and one can safely answer that it is possible to visit Spain at any season of the year, but the best time depends very much on the type of holiday you want to take.
Generally speaking, the best times to visit Spain are between late spring and early summer and between late summer and early autumn. We repeat, however, that this is a very approximate indication. It is better to find out about the specific climate of the region you are interested in visiting and consult the weather forecast before you leave.

Climatic areas and average temperatures in Spain
The five climate areas into which Spain can be divided are:
continental and Mediterranean/continental climate (Madrid and inland regions): cold winters and very hot, even torrid summers. Low rainfall. Winter temperatures are around 4°C, while summer temperatures frequently exceed 35°; in the interior regions of the Meseta the temperature differences between summer and winter are strongly accentuated.
mediterranean climate (Barcelona, regions along the east coast and the Balearic Islands): mild winters and hot summers, with rainfall mostly concentrated in the winter months. Winter temperatures between 7 and 10°, summer temperatures around 30°.
atlantic climate (Galicia and north-eastern regions): moderate temperatures in summer and winter, high humidity and heavy rainfall. Possibility of strong winds. Winter temperatures between 5 and 10 °C, summer temperatures between 18 and 20 °C.
mountain climate (Pyrenean regions): very cold winters and cool summers, with abundant snowfall.
subtropical climate (Canary Islands): warm climate all year round, with little difference in temperature between summer and winter: the former are around 25°, while winter temperatures are around 17°. Little precipitation.
