Whether the beach is the privileged destination of your holiday or a place to spend a couple of hours recharging your batteries after visiting museums and monuments, Valencia ‘s privileged location along the east coast of Spain makes it an ideal destination for those who want to go to the beach.
With seven kilometres of beaches just 15 minutes from the city centre and other beautiful beaches a little further on, Valencia allows you to choose between city beaches, with all amenities and easy access, or wilder beaches, just outside the city and surrounded by beautiful natural scenery.
But where are the most beautiful beaches? And how can they be reached? Here are tips on where to go to the beach in Valencia.
Valencia’s urban beaches are those located in the city, a few kilometres from the historic centre. They are well-equipped beaches with numerous services, ideal for those who enjoy comfort or sports activities on the beach. They are also perfect for families with small children, thanks to the gently sloping seabed, and for young people, who can find numerous bars and clubs in the area, including some of Valencia’s most famous discos.
In the summer months they are always crowded, but as they are very wide you will have no difficulty finding a corner for you.
Valencia’s most famous city beaches are:
Behind La Malvarrosa and Las Arenas is the Paseo Maritimo, a long, wide pedestrian avenue perfect for a relaxing stroll in the shade of palm trees. There is also a bicycle lane.
Choosing a seafront hotel in Valencia has many advantages, especially for those who want a relaxing and scenic stay: the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, especially at sunrise and sunset, create a unique atmosphere. Furthermore, you have direct access to wide sandy beaches such as the Malvarrosa, ideal for long walks, water sports or relaxing moments.
Staying close to the sea also allows one to enjoy the numerous seafood and paella restaurants located along the seafront. Finally, despite being in a quiet area, the city centre is easily accessible.
City beaches not for you? Move a little further and you’ll find beautiful beaches surrounded by nature. The most impressive are those in the area of the Albufera Natural Park, a protected area with a delicate Mediterranean ecosystem that includes wild dune beaches, forests, rice fields and the largest lake in Spain.
The park is also famous for being the birthplace of paella, the typical Spanish dish, which you can enjoy in its typical recipe in one of the restaurants in the area.
