Alicante‘s city beach is the beautiful Playa del Postiguet, a long stretch of golden sand bathed by a clear blue sea and dominated by the splendid Santa Barbara Castle.
Beloved by the inhabitants of Alicante, so much so that it was named in a famous popular song, Playa del Postiguet is located in the heart of the city, a stone’s throw from the famous pedestrian boulevard Explanada de España. It can be easily reached on foot, by bus or by tram.
The fine sand, calm waters, convenience from the centre and the magnificent castle in the background have made Postiguet one of the symbols of the city of Alicante, perfect for a stroll in winter or a dip in summer.
Playa del Postiguet is a pretty urban beach, very clean and with many facilities. You can sunbathe lying on the sand or swing in the hammocks provided during the summer; if it is too hot for you, you can rent a parasol.
The azure-blue sea invites you to long, relaxing swims or energetic strokes; its calm waters make it safe even for children.
Sports enthusiasts will find well-equipped areas and volleyball courts at their disposal, while those who want to indulge in total laziness will have a wide choice of bars and chirinquitos where they can enjoy a drink with a wonderful view of the sea.
The beach is also perfect for relaxing walks. If you want more tranquillity, come here early in the morning or towards evening when there are fewer people.
In cooler seasons it is a delight to walk along the 900-metre-long beach, pampered by the mild Alicante temperatures. In summer you can always relieve the sultry heat by wading your feet in the water!
Behind Playa del Postiguet rises the mountain on top of which is the Castillo de Santa Barbara, so there are apparently no facilities where to stay in the immediate surroundings. However, in the strip of houses that separates the beach from the mountain, you will find several flats for rent, ideal for staying in Alicante while remaining close to the beach. Alternatively, move to the area of the old town or the Explanada de Espana for a wide choice of hotels and move to Playa del Postiguet with a 10-15 minute walk or by public transport.
Finally, there is always the option of sleeping at the famous Melià Alacant, the hotel of the well-known Spanish chain that overlooks the western part of the beach, behind the marina.
We offer a selection of hotels at Playa del Postiguet to suit all categories of travellers. The most booked by tourists are the sea-facing hotels, often right on the beach. If you want to play it safe, choose one of the following: they are among the most booked hotels in Playa del Postiguet, sorted by number of reviews.
If you prefer space, privacy and the ability to prepare your own meals to a hotel holiday, book a holiday home at Playa del Postiguet. We recommend a few below, but in this case we advise you to book early because houses and apartments for rent at Playa del Postiguet are in high demand.
Playa del Postiguet is Alicante’s city beach, so if you’re already in the city we recommend you walk there. All you have to do is walk along the coast in a north-easterly direction, crossing the marina and arriving at Placa de la Porta de la Mar, which can also be reached by tram from the stop of the same name. At this point you will find the beach immediately on your right; it then stretches for about 650 metres, and its north-eastern end is easily reached by a second tram stop, La Marina.
