Good news for those who want to go on holiday to Alicante: the city, located on the south-east coast of Spain, enjoys weather conditions favourable to a trip in all seasons of the year.
Alicante’s climate is dry Mediterranean, with mild winters and warm summers. Even in the middle of winter there are plenty of sunny days and if you are lucky you might even find 20° days.
The average winter temperature is around 10°, while already in late spring you might find days with 30°.
Rainfall is scarce, mostly concentrated in the autumn months, while fog and snow are almost unknown; the driest months are July and August. It must be said that the rains, precisely because they are scarce, can sometimes be intense and concentrated in time; in the worst cases they result in flooding.
The sea temperature in Alicante in summer is around 25/26 degrees, so slightly warmer than in other parts of Spain. You can bathe until October, but of course the water will be less warm.
In the other months the water temperature drops, reaching a minimum of 15 degrees in January. For many it is too cold to bathe, but if you have a northern temperament you might make it!
Alicante is famous for its mild climate and sunny beaches, so many people assume that summer is the best time to go to Alicante.
In reality, when to go to Alicante just depends on the type of holiday you want to take: the city can be visited in all seasons of the year.
Late spring and summer are the best times for beach life, while autumn and winter are best for walking.
At any time of year, you can visit the city’s cultural attractions, enjoy the delicacies of the excellent regional cuisine and sip a glass of wine or a cold beer while admiring a beautiful sunset over the sea.
Summer is the time when everyone wants to go to Alicante, and why shouldn’t it be? The days are beautiful, with temperatures easily reaching thirty degrees and virtually no rainfall.
It is definitely the best time for those who love sunbathing and the heat, while it might not be recommended for those who cannot tolerate high temperatures and mugginess well. Another disadvantage is that the prices of flights and hotels in this season are higher.
Few people think about a holiday in Alicante in autumn and that is a shame. Alicante in September and October is wonderful: the days are still warm, but not as dry as in summer, and you can enjoy the heat without suffering. If you are lucky you might even be able to go swimming in mid-October!
From the end of October onwards the temperatures drop and the Atlantic disturbances begin: this is the period with the most rainfall.
If you want a break from the cold Alicante is a great option. The winter in Alicante is mild and rarely rainy, fog and snow are almost non-existent, so even in this season you can enjoy beautiful days.
Of course it is not warm enough for swimming in the sea, but the climate is perfect for nice walks and visiting the cultural attractions in and around the city.
An advantage of travelling in winter is that it is a low season for tourism, so hotel prices are considerably lower than in summer and it will not be difficult for you to find good offers.
Spring, especially between late April and May, is a great time to visit Alicante. Rainfall is still possible, but it is usually low and temperatures start to rise: with a bit of luck you might already find 30-degree days!
If you avoid Easter and long weekends, hotel prices are still good compared to the high season months.
