The weather in Barcelona is really fantastic. You could say that it is a city worth visiting 365 days a year, in winter it is great and in summer it is never too hot. As if that were not enough, there is little rain and the sun is always ready to shine, even in the winter months.

Early summer and autumn are the best months for Barcelona in terms of weather, especially May-June and September-October. In winter the days are always long as Barcelona is located much further west while maintaining the same time zone than Paris or Berlin, and snow is a very rare occurrence. Should a snowfall occur, rest assured that it will not last more than a day or two.

Most of the rain in Barcelona falls in April, although thunderstorms typical of Mediterranean regions can occur at any time of the year. July and August are certainly hot and humid; in the evenings, however, temperatures do not drop too much.

The sea that Barcelona overlooks is warm enough for bathing from June to October; inland, however, the temperatures drop slightly, as does the humidity: to the north on the Costa Brava there is often a constant wind, which on the one hand cools the summers, but on the other makes the winters colder.

Barcelona and its metropolitan area have a subtropical-Mediterranean climate; the average annual temperature is 20 degrees during the day and 11 degrees at night;

• January is the coldest month: the temperature ranges from 8 to 17 degrees during the day and 2 to 10 degrees at night.
• August is the hottest month: the temperature ranges from 25 to 31 degrees during the day and remains at around 20 degrees at night.

Hours of sunshine

Barcelona enjoys around 2500 hours of sunshine a year, ranging from 138 in December to 310 in July. This is in line with other Mediterranean cities but well above continental Europe, where sunshine hours are around 1500 per year. In winter, Barcelona receives about three times more sun than continental Europe.
