From beach clubs on the beach to underground venues, Barcelona is the ideal city for dancing late into the night. In fact, the discos in Barcelona are numerous and of a very high standard, catering to a very diverse audience.

Some of them are almost unknown to tourists and locals like to keep them secret almost as if they were jealous of their city, while others are literally stormed by tourists and visitors from all over the world.

For many clubs in Barcelona, the main nights are on Saturdays and Sundays: electronic music predominates, and they are often played by the best DJs on the national and international scene.

But there is not only electronic music: some clubs in Barcelona like to propose alternative music evenings, ranging from pop-rock to indie, especially during the week. Thursdays are often the night dedicated to alternative music in the city, thus attracting a wide and heterogeneous audience.

Note that most of the discos in Barcelona are actually small clubs that can often get really crowded. Fortunately, the climate around here is excellent and it is never too hot, especially in summer. This parenthesis, however, does not apply to Razzmatazz, one of Barcelona’s most famous clubs, which has a really huge main room; this huge space with a first-class sound system and a really sensational atmosphere often hosts renowned house and techno artists; for the most popular nights it is often worth booking the entrance online.

The best clubs in Barcelona

In a city so dedicated to nightlife, where discos can be found practically everywhere (even inside hotels, as in the case of W-Barcelona, where the Eclipse Nightclub is located), choosing which are the best ones is no easy task. And the task proves even harder because it is impossible not to mention some of the clubs that have made the history of electronic music in Spain and the world, such as Pacha or Razzmatazz. In any case, here are what we consider the best clubs in Barcelona.

Pachá

1Carrer de Ramon Trias Fargas, 2, Ciutat Vella, 08005 Barcelona, Spain

One of the most famous discos in Ibiza opened a branch in Barcelona years ago, right in the heart of the Olympic Port area, Barceloneta. Open seven days a week, the atmosphere is just like the original, with beach views and flamboyant interiors. The clientele is mainly international, but there is no shortage of locals, thanks to the world-famous DJs who periodically perform here.

Opium

2Pg. Marítim de la Barceloneta, 34, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

A short distance from Pacha, also in the Barceloneta area,Opium is another of the best discos in Barcelona, thanks to its huge hall that holds up to 3000 people, which punctually fills up every night without exception, welcoming young people from all over the world. Also at Opium, as at Pacha, internationally renowned DJs and electronic music stars such as David Guetta, Tiesto or Don Diablo perform. The night not to be missed is Saturday night, but also during the week Opium remains decidedly attractive, with a series of events on the calendar ranging from girls-only nights to reggaeton music.

Razzmatazz

3Carrer dels Almogàvers, 122, Sant Martí, 08018 Barcelona, Spain

It would be pointless to talk about the best discos in Barcelona without making due mention of Sala Razzmatazz. Located in the Poblenou area, it is one of the most famous clubs in Europe and at the same time the first in Spain to have planned events in no less than five different rooms. Open every day of the week, it is a true Barcelona landmark. Its underground-industrial atmosphere makes it suitable for all kinds of music; and indeed it is, with varied evenings for all kinds of audiences, although the focus is obviously on electronic music.

Jamboree

4Pl. Reial, 17, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona, Spain

Here is another Barcelona club that has made history. We are talking about the Jamboree Dance Club, located right in the centre along Las Ramblas. It is a place dedicated tohip-hop lovers, so much so that it can boast the title of Spain’s oldest hip-hop club: opened in fact in the 1960s, it converted to hip-hop in 1992 and since that date, every night without exception, it remains faithful to this musical genre.

Being located along Las Ramblas, it is not surprising that the majority of Jamboree goers are tourists, mainly from central and northern Europe, although of course there is no shortage of locals who love hip-hop, as well as derivative music styles such as R&B, trap and even reggaeton.

Macarena Club

5Carrer Nou de Sant Francesc, 5, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona, Spain

We mention the Macarena Club among the best clubs in Barcelona mainly because, as mentioned, many clubs in the city are really small. And the Macarena is one of them, with a capacity of only 84 people. Open 7 days a week, it oozes electronic music from every pore, and like many micro-discos, appearance is really the last thing patrons pay attention to: the only thing that matters is the passion for alternative electronic music, played in an intimate and personal space, ranging between techno, electro and nu-disco.

The tiny size of the Macarena Club means that there is a‘one in-one out’ policy at the entrance, i.e. you only get in when someone comes out (of course, it is almost a given that it will be sold out). We therefore recommend arriving early, or at least before it fills up completely, otherwise you’ll have to be patient. The same applies if you want to go and see the artists perform live: don’t risk it, and book your ticket well in advance.

Moog

6Carrer de l'Arc del Teatre, 3, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona, Spain

If there is one venue in Barcelona that perfectly fits the definition of underground, it is the Moog. Open 365 days a year, it is the heart of Barcelona’s electronic music scene and offers a much more intimate atmosphere than other larger clubs offering a similar genre of music, as it is another of the many micro-clubs in the city. Located in the old city of Barcelona, the Moog is now almost twenty years old, but definitely doesn’t show it. On the contrary, once you cross its threshold you will feel like you are taking part in a Berlin rave.

To be noted: Moog is a place for techno lovers, without exception, especially industrial, and moreover, detached from mainstream artists. Every day, without exception, from Monday to Sunday, this kind of music is played, so we only recommend it if you love it.

Sala Apolo

7Carrer Nou de la Rambla, 113, Sants-Montjuïc, 08004 Barcelona, Spain

Sala Apolo is another of the most famous clubs in Barcelona, and the reason is quite simple: it has been open for more than 70 years and hosts some of the most important parties and concerts in the city. Even TV programmes and live radio broadcasts have been conducted there!

At Apolo you go there to be yourself, regardless of appearance, the important thing is to feel good and of course to dance. Every night has its own style of music, with a truly impressive calendar of events that follows the seasons and is quite varied, although the Friday and Saturday evenings are almost always dedicated to electronic music. We therefore advise you to check the type of night scheduled first, and only then buy your ticket.

Discos in Barcelona: alternatives

Other discotheques in Barcelona are actually nightclubs and pubs, which have literally transformed in recent years to become the favourite haunts of nightlife lovers. Some of these clubs have decided to break away from the more traditional discos and hold regular theme nights such as jazz, soul, afro and garage, a really interesting alternative for those who like to dance and stay up late but are not used to the frenetic rhythms of electronic music.

Hours and common features

Barcelona’s discotheque hours are pushed way forward, it is not difficult to enter at two in the morning and still find no one on the dance floor, the night comes alive later and often closes the following morning.

Most of the clubs in Barcelona do not have an entrance fee to pay; of course this depends on the night and if there is an international guest playing, however most of them are free before a certain hour; as in many other parts of Spain you can find PRs around the city, busy handing out flyers with admission lists, discounts and free drinks; in some cases they are strategically placed near the club, but others move all over Barcelona, along the Rambla and in the Gothic Quarter.
