Bike sharing in Barcelona

If you want to explore Barcelona by bike, you can also use the bike sharing service offered by the city administration. It is called Bicing, and allows you to ride public bikes 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In all, the Bicing fleet has over 4000 mechanical and 3000 electric bikes, and 519 drop-off and pick-up stations in the city. The service works with contactless cards, via NFC on your phone or through the Smou app, available for Android and iOS (download it in advance!) through which you can link your credit card and top up your virtual wallet as needed.

Speaking of payments, there are essentially two types of fares: annual subscription or single ride for occasional use. Keep in mind that the cost of electric bikes is higher than mechanical ones. The bikes, with their iconic bright red colour, have 26-inch wheels, a lightweight aluminium frame, front disc brake and LED lighting system, as well as an RFID blocking device.

In addition, TMB, the body that manages Barcelona’s metropolitan transport, recently inaugurated its AMBici service, the bike-sharing service available in the municipalities of theBarcelona metropolitan area. These are electric bikes that make it easy to connect to the public transport service. At full capacity, it will consist of 2600 bicycles available at 236 stations within the municipalities of Castelldefels, Cornellà de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat, Molins de Rei, El Prat de Llobregat, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Sant Joan Despí, Sant Just Desvern, ant Feliu de Llobregat, Viladecans, Gavà, Badalona and Hospitalet de Llobregat.
