Reus Airport

Reus Airport is located along the Costa Daurada, close to the city of Reus and about 7 kilometres from Tarragona. The airport receives much of its traffic due to its proximity to the seaside tourist destinations of Salou and Cambrils, but also due to its relative short distance to Barcelona, which is about 100 kilometres to the northeast.

The airport is also close to one of Europe’s largest amusement parks, Port Aventura, and close to the Prades mountains, which attract nature and hiking enthusiasts.

Please note: all companies at the airport only operate flights during the summer season. During winter, therefore, the Reus airport is totally inactive.

How to reach the centre of Barcelona from Reus Airport

Reus Airport is about one and a half hours away from Barcelona and can be reached by bus or taxi, but also by train, private airport transfers and of course by hiring a car.

Buses

Buses run regularly from Reus airport to Barcelona’s Sants train station, from where you can reach virtually any point in the city by metro (lines L3 and L5). The route is operated by the Monbus company and the transfer time is about 90 minutes. Buses from the airport leave at flight arrivals, the same applies for the return from Barcelona. Tickets are purchased directly on the bus.

Train

Barcelona’s Sants station and the central station in Reus are very well connected by numerous regional trains. The journey is comfortable and again takes about an hour and a half. Of course, you will need to add an additional leg to the journey, namely the one from Reus station to the airport and back, to be made by bus or taxi.

Taxi

The taxi from Reus airport to Barcelona is undoubtedly an option to consider, but one must bear in mind that the journey is about 100 kilometres, and the fare will be about 200 euros. It is therefore an option only for groups of three or four people.

Private transfers

Private transfers are slightly cheaper and more comfortable than taxis at the airport, if not only because the price is known from the start. There are several reputable companies on the Internet, a short search will help you assess which one is right for you.

Hire cars

Finally, it is certainly possible to rent a car at Reus airport and arrive in Barcelona. As in many parts of Spain, the price of renting a car is low, however, the advice is to book your rental car well in advance directly from Italy, in order to be able to take advantage of the best offers available.

Airlines at Reus Airport

Numerous airlines land and take off at Reus airport, mainly charter and low-cost airlines. Of these, there are Easyjet, Vueling and Ryanair, as well as Jet2 and TUI Airways. A large part of the traffic received by Reus airport derives from routes to and from the United Kingdom, a sign that the surrounding region, the city of Tarragona and the Costa Daurada, are very popular with British tourists in summer.

Airport History

Reus Airport was founded in 1935 and served as a Republican base during the Spanish Civil War. After the Fascist victory, it was used by the Spanish Air Force and was only demilitarised in the early 1990s, when it became a civil airport administered by AENA, the Spanish airport authority.

But it is only since the 2000s that Reus airport has gained importance in the region: it has been used by Ryanair since October 2008, and although there are no direct destinations from Italy, it is still possible to use it with convenient triangulations via London Stansted, Manchester or Weeze, to name a few.

In order to adapt Reus airport to the increasing air traffic, AENA (the body that manages Spanish airports) has carried out a series of improvements. For a start, a new check-in building has been constructed between arrivals and departures, thus integrating three buildings into one. There are 23 check-in desks and 12 boarding gates, 6 of which are reserved for non-Schengen flights.
