Have you decided to go on holiday or a trip to Barcelona and don’t want to depend on anyone? Then the best solution is to rent a flat. There are solutions for every budget and for every period, from a few days to several months.
Renting a flat in Barcelona on average is not too expensive. Of course, villas with swimming pools and dreamy views built near Tibidabo have prices that few can afford, but a small flat even in a central location along La Rambla or in the middle of the Gothic quarter is often very affordable.
Remaining in the centre, the most exclusive areas are those of Port Olimpic and Eixample, especially around Passeig de Gracia and in general in the streets and roads closest to amenities such as metro, shops or bus stops. There are no areas that are too cheap, sometimes a good flat behind the Cathedral could cost less than a room on the edge of the city, but since the city is not huge and getting around on foot is a great way to save money, it is certainly worth spending a few extra euros for a flat in Barcelona located at a convenient distance from all the monuments and places of interest in the city: the time and money saved by not having to use public transport could more than compensate for the higher price of accommodation.
Before renting a flat in Barcelona, it is essential to identify its requirements. For a start, some areas are much noisier than others: this is the case with flats along La Rambla, those in the heart of the Gothic quarter and those in the Born area. Apartments located along the city’s busiest thoroughfares, such as on Gran via de Les Corts Catalanes, in Plaza Catalunya or on Avinguda Diagonal may also be noisy and should be avoided for those who like to get a good night’s rest.
It is also imperative to understand before departure what is absolutely necessary in the house and what is not. You might need free Wi-Fi to stay in touch with family and relatives even while on holiday, or air conditioning, which might be necessary especially in the summer months. Flats in Barcelona are equipped with a kitchen or kitchenette, you should check before your departure whether they provide all the crockery and utensils you need to prepare your own meals.
Are you planning to rent a car in Barcelona? Then make sure that the flat you choose has a private parking space, or at least that there are free parking spaces in the area. Renting a house in the middle of a pedestrian or busy area could mean spending valuable time looking for a place to leave your car, not to mention the money spent on parking meters.
Finally, a word of advice: before booking, it is necessary to assess whether the price of the flat also includes extras that we often take for granted such as bed linen, towels or final cleaning; sometimes an apparently too low price could hide such pitfalls.
