The Montjuïc Cable Car (Telefèric de Montjuïc) is a cable car that starts at the station coinciding with the arrival of the Montjuïc funicular, and climbs up the hill to the summit station near Montjuïc Castle at the top.
Halfway up, the cable car makes a 90° turn and the cabins pass through the Mirador intermediate station, although it is only possible to descend.
The Montjuïc cable car opened in 1970 to replace the upper section of the funicular. It initially used open cabins, and was closed between October 2004 and May 2007 for a complete renovation to increase its capacity: on this occasion, all the cabins were replaced by 55 new glass-enclosed cabins.
The length of the route is 752 metres and it travels a height difference of 84 metres at a speed of 5 metres per second. The cabins slow down at the departure and arrival stations to allow passengers to board and disembark; two cabins are equipped to accommodate wheelchair users.
From the Montjuïc cable car you can admire a unique panorama of the whole of Barcelona and its most representative places such as the Plaza de Cataluna, the Cathedral, the Sagrada Familia, the port with its cruise ships, the Olympic quarter, the Glòries Tower and the entire seafront.

The route of the cable car starts at the Parc de Montjuïc, near the Joan Miró Foundation, and will take you directly to Montjuïc Castle without any intermediate stops. On the return journey, the cable car makes a stop at the Mirador de l’Alcalde. It is not obligatory to stop here, but we recommend it!

The Montjuïc cable car is operated by TMB, the company that manages public transport in Barcelona, but unlike the funicular, it is not part of the ATM (Autoritat del Transport Metropolità) fare network. You need to buy tickets before boarding, and it is better to buy the return ticket now as it is much cheaper than buying separate tickets for individual routes.
The quickest and easiest way to get on the cable car is to buy a skip-the-line ticket directly online, thus avoiding wasting time at the ticket office.
The cable car ticket is included with some guided tours of Montjuïc’ s attractions. On foot or by bike, the hill of Montjuïc is ideal for a half day away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
Opening hours vary according to the months of the year, as shown in the diagram below:
You can reach the Montjuïc cable car by taking the Barcelona Metro and getting off at the Parallel stop (lines 2 and 3) and then boarding the funicular. Alternatively, you can get there by bus, on lines 50 and 55.
The Montjuïc cable car should not be confused with the Barcelona Port cable car, which crosses Port Vell, the city’s old port, and connects Montjuïc Hill with the Barceloneta district.
The Teleferica de Montjuic starts from Avinguda Miramar and arrives at Montjuic Castle, making an intermediate stop at the Mirador.
City Card allow you to save on public transport and / or on the entrances to the main tourist attractions.
