Moco is the abbreviation for ‘Modern Contemporary’ and identifies Barcelona’s museum of modern, contemporary and urban art that exhibits works of art, photography, sculpture and street art by famous artists. The Moco Museum aims to make art usable and accessible to all and houses creations by personalities such as Banksy, Salvador Dalí, Andy Warhol, KAWS, Keith Haring and many others. The site is housed in a historical palace from the 15th century that was once the residence of numerous Spanish noble families and this allows one to observe the combination of ancient architecture and modern art. The exhibition route often leads one to admire works that deal with social and cultural themes or with highly topical issues, even in a provocative manner.
In particular, there are two main sections Modern Masters dedicated to the great masters of modern art and Contemporary Masters displaying installations by contemporary artists. There are also routes on particular themes, such as a European exhibition of the contemporary Chilean artist Guillermo Lorca entitled ‘Esplendor de la Noche’ and an exhibition dedicated to the birth and development of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) in Europe and the world. There are also spaces dedicated to digital art with exhibitions curated by TeamLab, Les Fantômes and Studio Irma.
