Lanzarote Airport (ACE) is located along the southeast coast of the Canary Islands’ northernmost and easternmost island, in the village of San Bartolome and 5 kilometres southwest of the capital Arrecife.
The airport, the fourth largest in the archipelago, has two passenger terminals and a cargo terminal: Terminal 1 for international and domestic flights and Terminal 2 reserved for flights within the islands of the archipelago.
With over 5.5 million travellers, the airport is used by 40 airlines and is connected by direct flights to airports in half of Europe.
There is also a small aviation museum inside the airport.
On leaving the terminal at Lanzarote airport, you will not find any hotels or accommodation to sleep in. But lodging in the vicinity of the airport in the event of a late evening arrival or early morning departure will certainly not be a problem: outside the airport area going eastwards is the village of Playa Honda, decidedly full of beds. Here the accommodation solutions are mostly flats, some even directly facing the sea, to combine proximity to the airport with relaxation on the beach.
On the other hand, if you move westwards out of the airport and skirt the runway, after less than 3 kilometres you will reach the resort of Los Pocillos, an urbanisation that is already part of the municipality of Puerto del Carmen. Here, too, you will find plenty of accommodation, including some three- and four-star hotels.
Lanzarote Airport is located on the south coast of the island, between the resorts of Playa Honda and Los Pocillos. Its location is central to the major population centres, and at the same time it is next to the LZ-2 road, one of the major road infrastructures on Lanzarote.
To get to the airport from Arrecife it takes about 10 minutes for a distance of just over 6 kilometres, travelling west along the LZ-2, while to get there from Puerto del Carmen it takes almost the same time, method and distance, but this time you have to travel east. Playa Blanca, on the other hand, is further away. It takes about half an hour, but getting there is very easy as you just take the LZ-2 at the terminal exit and follow it eastwards to your destination.
The only means of transport connecting the airport to the various locations are regular buses:
Taxis stop at the exit of the arrivals area in front of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, but we highly recommend hiring a car in order to visit the sights and natural wonders of Lanzarote that would otherwise be almost impossible to reach by public transport.
To rent a car in Lanzarote we always recommend comparing the rates of all companies with DiscoverCars because in our opinion it offers the best prices, allows cancellation up to 48 hours before rental and offers a very cheap comprehensive insurance policy.
An alternative to TAXIs is to book in advance a private transfer to or from Lanzarote Airport airport. A driver will pick you up at the airport arrivals (thus avoiding taxi queues), at your hotel or wherever you prefer, to take you to the desired address.
It is the best solution if you do not want to waste time, do not want to use public transport, have a lot of luggage or are travelling in a group. To book a private transfer to or from Lanzarote Airport airport visit this site.
