For this reason, what could be better than a rental car to make the most of all these beauties and discover them with maximum autonomy?
You could spend a whole week in Lanzarote and never go to the beach, there are so many things to see. One could take part in an organised tour to see them all, but time would be too short. You could take advantage of public transport, but buses don’t go everywhere and taxis tend to be expensive, especially in the Canaries where everything is cheap.
So why not rent a car in Lanzarote? It is cheap, parking spaces are free and can be found without problems, petrol is much cheaper than in the rest of Europe thanks to the special tax regime in the Canaries.
There are practically no contraindications, also considering that Lanzarote is easy to get around and the directions are very clear. In addition, every tourist spot has parking facilities, so you can maximise your time on site.
It is important to understand that the transfer from the airport to the hotel by bus could be long and exhausting, and the taxi could be expensive. For this reason, it is essential to have a clear idea and pick up your rental car directly at the airport.
By doing so, you will save money on the airport-hotel transfer right from the start. Not to mention that at Lanzarote airport you will find practically all car rental companies, from large international chains to small local companies, which often offer a cheaper price at the expense of service quality and fleet modernity.

Renting a car in Lanzarote is simple and straightforward, but there are a few simple rules and tips to take into account.
A golden rule when it comes to renting a car is to move in advance. Rushing to the last minute in the hope of finding last-minute offers is pure utopia: in fact, companies prefer those who book months and months in advance, giving these customers the most advantageous offers and the greatest choice.
For this reason, the advice is to book via the Internet directly from home once the travel dates are clear. And if plans should change? No problem: cancellation is almost always free of charge, depending on the company chosen.
To the basic cost of car rental you need to add the optional extra insurance. The basic one, included in the price, covers damage to your car up to a deductible. Resetting this costs a few euros per day, the choice depending on your confidence and perhaps the duration of the rental.
At check-in, you will also be offered some optional extras for a fee, such as a satellite navigation system, child seat or roof rack, which you are free to decide whether or not to use.
Lastly, it is important to remember that for the reservation it is necessary to show a credit card as a guarantee, in the driver’s name, from which an amount will be blocked as a deposit that varies from company to company. This amount will be returned in full at the end of the rental, provided of course that the car is in the same condition in which it was taken.

In Lanzarote, we recommend renting a car that is tall enough (such as an SUV) as you will often have to drive on bumpy roads to reach some of the most beautiful parts of the island. While a 4×4 is not necessary, avoid cars that are too small and low as some of the roads are really bad and littered with rocks that could easily cause damage to the bottom of the rental car.
