Gran Canaria Airport

Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), in Spanish Aeropuerto de Gran Canaria, is located along the east coast of the island, in the bay of Gando near the city of Telde and 18 kilometres south of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and is the main gateway to the Canarian archipelago.

The airport’s 2 terminals, A and BC, are reserved one for internal EU flights and the other for non-Schengen flights.

With over 10.5 million passengers a year, Gran Canaria Airport is served by the airlines easyJet, Iberia, Neos Air and Ryanair. The airport is a hub for Binter Canarias Airlines.

Connections to the other islands of the archipelago are numerous, especially with Tenerife and Lanzarote.

Immediately outside the terminal of Gran Canaria airport, there are no accommodations. However, in case of a late evening flight arrival or early morning departure, there are some options in the adjacent villages. For example, you can find a flat in Ojos de Garza, about 500 metres north of the airport, or in Las Majoreras, a couple of kilometres south. If, on the other hand, you want to combine a beach holiday with proximity to the airport, you can choose the resort of El Burrero, located about 3 kilometres south of the airport and overlooking a small beach, Playa El Burrero.

Connections to and from the airport

Gran Canaria Airport is located on the east coast of the island, about halfway between the capital Las Palmas and the trendy Maspalomas with its dunes and resorts. The location is therefore strategic from a tourist point of view, also due to the fact that right next to the airport passes the GC-1 road, which is the one that connects the two cities. The distances are also more or less equivalent: both take about 20-25 minutes to travel, covering a distance of about 30 kilometres.

By bus

The only public transport available at Gran Canaria airport are buses:

• line 1 connects the airport with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Puerto de Mogan every 20 minutes;
• line 5 and line 66 connect the airport with the capital and the tourist area of Faro de Maspalomas;
• line 11 reaches the town of Aguimes;
• line 36 and line 90 reach Faro de Maspalomas via Telde;
• line 60 connects the capital of the island with the airport;
• line 91 connects the airport with the capital with the tourist area of Playa del Cura.

By taxi

Taxis stop outside the arrivals terminal. We advise against getting into unofficial taxis whose drivers will try to pick you up already inside the airport, as you often risk spending more.

Private transfer

An alternative to TAXIs is to book in advance a private transfer to or from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria airport. A driver will pick you up at the airport arrivals (thus avoiding taxi queues), at your hotel or wherever you prefer, to take you to the desired address.
