Along Gran Canaria’s 230 kilometres of coastline are beautiful sandy beaches and rocky coves.

The most famous beach in Gran Canaria is undoubtedly Maspalomas, a truly spectacular dune system along the southernmost tip of the island. The nearby Playa del Ingles is also very popular and full of charm.

Very quiet are Playa Taurito, San Agustin, Meloneras, Playa de la Laja and Playa de Amadores, the lovers’ beach. Don’t miss the beautiful Playa de Veneguera and Playa de Melenara.

If you are looking for a beach to practice water sports, windsurfing, fishing and diving to name but a few, Playa Puerto Rico, Pozo Izquierdo, Playa de las Canteras and Playa de las Alcaravaneras are ideal.

Playa de Maspalomas

Maspalomas beach, located in the south of the island, is one of the most famous in the Canary Islands. At more than 6 km long, it offers wide stretches of golden sand and crystal-clear waters, ideal for swimming and sunbathing.

The main feature of the beach is the vast dune field, a natural reserve reminiscent of the desert. It is perfect for long scenic walks and admiring the contrast between the dunes and the ocean. The beach is also close to the famous Maspalomas lighthouse and offers areas for families, naturists and water sports.

Playa de Las Canteras

Playa de las Canteras is one of the city beaches of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and is only five minutes away from the cruise ship port. The beach stretches along the northern coast towards the La Isleta peninsula.

The golden sandy beach, over 3 kilometres long and popular with locals and tourists alike, is protected by the La Barra cliffs that allow for swimming and snorkelling in calm waters. The southern tip, known as La Cicer, is more open to ocean currents and is mainly frequented by water sports enthusiasts.

Safe for families with children and ideal for relaxing in the sun, Playa de las Canteras is lined with a beautiful seafront promenade where you will find shops, surf schools, restaurants, tapas bars and excellent hotels.

Playa de San Agustín

Playa de San Agustin is located along the beautiful southern coast of Gran Canaria, not far from the more popular and popular Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas.

Quiet and frequented mainly during weekends, this 650-metre-long, equipped, dark sandy beach slopes gently into calm waters.

Popular with snorkelling and diving enthusiasts, San Augustin is lined with a beautiful promenade where one can find excellent seafood restaurants, cafés, shops and, of course, numerous luxurious hotels.

The resort of San Agustin is one of the most popular with islanders but more and more tourists are choosing it for their holidays due to its proximity to Gran Canaria airport. At the small marina of Pasito Blanco it is possible to hire boats for excursions.

Playa Taurito

The beach of Playa Taurito is located along the volcanic coast of the south-western part of Gran Canaria between the resorts of Puerto de Mogan, which is 3 kilometres away, and Puerto Rico, which can be reached in 10 minutes by car.

The black sand beach is enclosed between two high cliffs that shelter it from the wind. Just 150 metres long, Taurito beach is ideal for families with children and snorkelling enthusiasts.

Around the beach are a few large hotels, literally perched on the cliffs, numerous shops and excellent fish restaurants and tapas bars. Behind the beach is an aquapark and a miniature golf course.

Playa de Veneguera

The wild beach of Playa de Veneguera, one of the few remaining truly unspoilt beaches on Gran Canaria, is located along the east coast of the island within the natural area of Mogan.

The sand and pebble beach of Playa de Veneguera is particularly famous for its spectacular sunsets and frequented by naturists.

The beach at Veneguere is difficult to access as it requires a bumpy dirt road for at least 30 minutes by car. Playa de Veneguera does not offer any services so remember to bring everything you need for a day at the beach.

Playa de Amadores

Playa de Amadores, the lovers’ beach, is located along the south-western coast of Gran Canaria between Playa Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogan and is a wide, crescent-shaped bay protected from the sea by two breakwaters.

The 800-metre long and 30-metre wide beach of light golden sand has a quiet atmosphere and is a favourite with families and couples who come here to watch the sensational sunset as the sun disappears behind the Teide volcano on the neighbouring island of Tenerife.

Playa de Amadores, the island’s third man-made beach, is lined with cafés, tapas bars, restaurants and a few hotels. Built from scratch in the early 2000s, its waters are warm and calm, and there are services such as lifeguards and sunbeds for hire. It is large and very safe for families, but certainly not the place for those who like wild, unspoilt beaches. Getting to Playa Amadores from Puerto Rico is very easy and is only a five-minute drive. It is also possible to get there on foot in about 15 minutes by taking the path from the marina.

Puerto Rico Beach

The resort and beach of Puerto Rico is located along the south-western coast of Gran Canaria, at the end of a valley not far from Puerto de Mogan and the beautiful dunes of Maspalomas.

The small, crescent-shaped, golden sandy beach, equipped with every service, was the first artificial beach in Gran Canaria. 250 metres long and about 90 metres wide, Playa de Puerto Rico is bathed by crystal-clear, calm waters that make swimming a real pleasure.

With a family atmosphere, Puerto Rico offers numerous beach bars, seafood restaurants, a beautiful promenade, tropical gardens, two public swimming pools and excellent hotels.

Puerto Rico offers a wide choice of water activities including diving, sailing, deep-sea fishing and boat excursions, the Atlantida theme park, Sioux City theme park and a golf course 5 minutes away.

Anfi del Mar is a beautiful man-made beach located in the south-west of Gran Canaria. Originally a private beach for guests of the Anfi complex, Spanish law later banned private beaches.

Coming from Maspalomas and Arguineguin, Anfi is located just before the resort of Puerto Rico on the GC 500 road. You can park in the car park on the opposite side of the road and walk to the beach. There are also shops, bars and restaurants.

Playa de Mogán

The beach of Puerto de Mogán, a short walk from the famous marina, is the westernmost beach on the south coast of Gran Canaria. The water is clear and calm and the sea around the cliffs is an ideal place for snorkelling as there is a fantastic variety of fish.

In addition, visitors can explore the fascinating underwater world by taking part in a submarine trip or spending some time on a deep-sea fishing boat.

Sunbeds, umbrellas, pedal boats and canoes can be hired, and there are also kiosks. Not far from the beach is a network of canals and bridges for which Puerto de Mogán is often called ‘Little Venice‘. After a day of sun and sea, visitors can relax with a leisurely stroll around the harbour, where they will find a wide variety of shops and restaurants.

Playa de Melenara

Malenara beach is located along the east coast of Gran Canaria and is one of the eight beaches in the town of Telde.

Very popular with surfers, the black sand beach of Melenara is 600 metres long and lined with a beautiful promenade where some of the city’s best restaurants can be found.

Ideal for sunbathing, practising water sports or admiring the evolutions in the waves of sportsmen, Malenara is one of the best beaches in Gran Canaria.

Not far away are the beaches of Salinetas, La Garita, Playa del Hombre and Playa Chica.

Playa de Las Alcavaneras

Playa de Las Alcaravaneras is one of the city beaches of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and is located near the Castillo de La Luz, a castle built in 1494.

This gifted stretch of sand, much frequented by the inhabitants of the island’s capital, is the ideal place to relax, go sailing or canoeing as it is the city beach with the best conditions for water sports and bathing.

Several chiringuitos can be found along Avenida Maritima, the road that stretches from the Vegueta district to the La Isleta peninsula and runs alongside the beach.
