The beach of Sa Caleta, also known as Es Bol Nou, is located along the southern coast of the island just after Ibiza Airport, in the direction of Cala Jondal, a mere 10-minute drive from Eivissa and 9 kilometres from Sant Josep de sa Talaia.

The 150-metre-long, very narrow beach is overhung by red cliffs and is bathed by very shallow waters that make it ideal for families with small children. Sheltered from the winds, Sa Caleta lies within a U-shaped bay and has soft, golden sand in the centre and smooth pebbles on the sides.

A small road winds its way through the La Mola peninsula and leads to the archaeological site of Sa Caleta, a Carthaginian settlement dating back to the 7th century B.C. and declared a Unesco World Heritage Site, which covers 4 hectares.

Free parking and a restaurant are located not far from the beach.

Things to do in Sa Caleta

The main attraction is the Phoenician archaeological site of Sa Caleta, dating back to the 7th century BC. These well-preserved remains represent the first Phoenician settlement in Ibiza and are part of the island’s UNESCO heritage. The site clearly shows the structure of the ancient village, with its streets and dwellings, offering an interesting window into the island’s ancient history. An information trail with explanatory panels allows visitors to understand the historical importance of the site.

The beach, a small natural inlet about 100 metres long, is characterised by golden sand and fine gravel. The crystal-clear, sheltered waters are ideal for swimming and snorkelling, while the surrounding reefs create an intimate, protected environment. The water depth gradually increases, making the bay safe for swimming.

The famous Sa Caleta Restaurant, housed in an old fisherman’s house, has become an institution on the island for its traditional fish cuisine. Its terrace offers panoramic views of the bay and is an ideal place to enjoy authentic Ibizan gastronomy in a unique atmosphere.

The red cliffs surrounding the cove offer excellent opportunities for short scenic walks. Well-trodden paths lead to viewpoints that provide spectacular views of the coastline and are particularly impressive at sunset, when the rock takes on even more intense hues.

How to get to Sa Caleta

Sa Caleta is very close to the airport as the crow flies, but it is not easy to get there. Keep the terminal as a reference, turn your back to it and proceed to the left; the road is already called Carretera Sa Caleta, take it and after a few metres you will find a fork in the road. Go right and then take the first left; proceed for about 3 kilometres to your destination. From the airport it doesn’t take more than 7 minutes; the distance between Sa Caleta and other parts of Ibiza therefore depends on how long it takes you to get to the airport.

Where to stay in Sa Caleta

Sa Caleta is in an isolated location, and in its immediate surroundings there are no facilities where you can sleep. To enjoy the beach in all its splendour both in the morning and in the evening without being surrounded by tourists, we recommend that you take the Disseminat Sa Caleta road. Behind the beach, moving eastwards you will reach the airport and Eivissa, with a consequent very wide choice of accommodation, while to the west you will immediately find yourself in the open countryside.
