Playa de las Salinas

The beautiful beach of las Salinas, or Platja de ses Salines, which has nothing to envy from Caribbean beaches, is located at the eastern edge of the Natural Park and Salt Lakes in southern Ibiza, at the southernmost tip of the island not far from the town of Eivissa.

Famous for the transparency of its waters lapping against the fine white sand, Ses Salines is a crescent-shaped bay one and a half kilometres long and 30 metres wide.

Frequented by celebrities, the beach is surrounded by Mediterranean maquis and is equipped with deckchairs and umbrellas for hire, trendy bars, restaurants, small shops, showers and offers water sports. The end of the bay is frequented by naturists and hippies.

Not far away are the beautiful beaches of Cala Bassa, Cala Comte and Cala d’Hort. In the nearby resort Playa d’en Bossa , there are several large hotels right in front of the beach.

The beach of Ses Salines

The main beach is the heart of the area, famous for its white sand and transparent waters with iridescent reflections. The shoreline is characterised by a succession of different zones: more mundane areas with famous beach clubs alternate with quieter, more natural stretches, allowing each visitor to find their ideal dimension.

The historic Salt Pans of Ibiza, active since Phoenician times, create a unique landscape with their evaporation ponds that take on a pinkish hue at sunset. This ancient salt-extraction system, still in operation, is part of the island’s historical and cultural heritage and can be visited by walking along the paths that run alongside the basins.

The coastal pine forest bordering the beach provides natural shade and paths for pleasant walks. This protected environment is home to a rich biodiversity and is particularly popular for birdwatching, especially during migration when pink flamingos can be observed.

The famous beach clubs of Las Salinas represent the more glamorous side of the beach. Historic establishments such as Sa Trinxa and the Jockey Club have helped to create the legend of this resort, offering a mix of music, Mediterranean cuisine and a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere. These establishments, perfectly integrated into the landscape, are renowned for their DJ sets and for attracting an international audience.

How to get to Playa de las Salinas

Playa de las Salinas is located on the southern end of the island of Ibiza, not far from the airport as the crow flies. And to get there, you really have to follow the signs to the airport, staying on the EI-800 and turning south into the Playa d’En Bossa end zone. Continue on the road, the EI-900, towards the salt flats and Sant Francesc de s’Estany, pass it and you will arrive at your destination. In all, the journey from Eivissa will not take more than a quarter of an hour.

Playa de las Salinas is also reached by a bus, line L11, leaving from the Eivissa police station; the journey takes about half an hour in all.

Where to stay in Playa de las Salinas

On the west side of Playa de las Salinas, in other words the side looking towards Punta de Sa Cova Llarga and Punta de la Rama, there is a hostal and a small boutique hotel. They are by far the best place to stay in the area, a stone’s throw from the beach and without the stress of having to find parking. They are also excellent for enjoying the beach without too many tourists, especially early in the morning or late at night, even after sunset.

However, these solutions are rather isolated from the rest of Ibiza and the main towns. If you prefer a more cosmopolitan atmosphere, move north 5-6 kilometres and you will arrive at the super-crowded Playa d’En Bossa, where you will find accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets.
