The beautiful beach of Cala Benirras, still with its flower child atmosphere, is located along the northern coast of Ibiza, only a 10-minute drive from Puerto de San Miquel and 35 minutes from Eivissa.
At 150 metres long and 30 metres wide, the golden sand and pebble beach lies within a deep inlet surrounded by green hills covered with pine trees. The rocky seabed makes it particularly suitable for snorkelling enthusiasts.
The beach owes its fame not only to its natural beauty, but also to its special bohemian and hippie atmosphere, which manifests itself especially at sunset on Sundays, when dozens of drummers gather on the beach to greet the setting sun behind Cap Bernat, creating a magical and unforgettable experience. The islet of Cap Bernat, the sacred rock of the hippies, lies at the entrance to the bay and at sunset, when everything is tinged with fiery hues, makes the view even more unique.
Cala Benirras is served by two restaurants, both renowned for their fish dishes, and a chiringuito. Not far away is the beautiful Cave of Can Marcà.
The main beach stretches about 120 metres into a sheltered bay and has a characteristic sand mixed with gravel and pebbles. The crystal-clear, deep turquoise waters are generally calm and ideal for swimming. The presence of traditional fishermen’s cottages (varaderos) adds a touch of authenticity to the landscape and offers excellent photo opportunities.
The majestic Cap Bernat, known locally as ‘the finger of God’, is the undisputed symbol of the bay. This vertical rock formation creates a spectacular backdrop, particularly impressive during sunsets, when the sun aligns perfectly behind it, creating breathtaking plays of light.
Hiking trails that start on both sides of the bay allow you to reach high vantage points from which to admire the cove in all its beauty. These walks, of medium difficulty, offer spectacular views of the island’s northern coastline and are particularly popular with photographers and nature lovers.
Within walking distance of Cala Benirras you will find some beautiful villas with swimming pools for rent, which are rather expensive but without a doubt the best option for sleeping close to the beach. Alternatively, choose to stay at the small Puerto de San Miquel, from where a winding road leads to the beach in less than 10 minutes. Here you will find several excellent flats, resorts and hotels with all the comforts and conveniences.
